AAA Litter, 38 Days Old, Visits the Holy Name School Kindergarteners
11/16/23

Spirit and I do Reading Dog with the Holy Name School kindergarteners every Thursday morning (See Reading Dog News). The kids read to Spirit, who is totally nonjudgmental, and gain confidence in their reading ability.  If I have a litter during the school year, I always take the pups to play with the kids.  Denise helped me load pups in the car and followed us, while Linda met us there.

Emily, the kindergarten teacher, got the kids into their coats and boots as soon as we arrived.  We had decided to use the fenced school garden area for the visit, so I took some outdoor toys.  One happened to be a “cow,” which turned out quite appropriate when one of the kids came out with a HUGE cowboy hat and a cowboy duster.  He saw that cow toy and latched on to it!  I asked Emily if his parents ranched, and she said, laughing, that his mother did, and his dad drove a big semi. She said the boy is obsessed with cowboys and big trucks.

We only had 5 kids, the other two being sick, but they made enough noise and movement to make it quite a socializing experience for the pups, who alternately chased kids and toys and sat in laps.

When the pups got cold, several of the kids took off their coats for the pups to lie on – or cuddled them in the coats – very sweet! The morning was cold enough that we only stayed for 30 minutes so that neither pups nor kids got seriously chilled.  All of us had a great time!
