Illustrated SAR Test 13: Hunt for Food I (Food Drag)

Search & Rescue Test, page 13

Hunt for Food I This test begins with a piece of jerky tied on a string and dragged to attract the pup’s interest and see how interested it is, how hard it will work to get it, if it will follow its movement when raised high and how hard it will work to keep it as the tester jerks, tugs and generally prevents the pup from easily eating it.

Cel’s note: What Janet was referring to was her initial approach to the jerky. She circled it, examining it from all sides, before deciding she wanted it. She did the same thing at 33 days when we introduced toys for the first time, with a small life-like weasel toy. Once she investigated it, she pounced and played and played and played with it.
