Justice at Morning Playtime

I hoped to get photos of my crew before the fall colors were over. Two weeks of heavy rain didn’t help any, but I finally had a day of decent weather when I was home, so I tried. There wasn’t a lot of tree color yet, but the grasses around my fence-post pile had dried to a beautiful light-gold color that sure captured the sunlight. I hadn’t been able to get a handyman all summer, so the grass hadn’t been cut down, which I usually do to prevent the dogs getting grass seeds in their ears. To get the colors AND have the sun behind me, I had to use an area that slopes downhill. It did make for some interesting photos of them coming uphill!
Lovely has arthritis in her feet and doesn’t chase the ball much anymore. For ball sessions, I pair her with Justice. When she gets tired of chasing the ball, she comes and sits by me and watches Justice go back and forth. Clouds covered the sun during their playtime so the photos are darker than some of the other play sessions’.
Justice is faster than my old girl and often grabs her ball and packs it around, holding both it and his ball in his mouth until I rescue Lovely’s ball and return it to her. Sunday, though, he got quite the comeuppance when his ball bounced right at Lovely and she captured it, lay down and alternated chewing on it and her own ball, staring him down any time he got close and tried to get his ball. I laughed and laughed at Justice, who thought he was really abused. He couldn’t believe that he was being treated that way and kept giving me very mournful looks. I let him stew for several minutes before I called Lovely to me and he was able to zip in and grab his ball. I even got photos!
