The day was rainy, so we trained at the arena instead of at Craftco. Our trainer uses much smaller-diameter pipes, so Ak’is was reluctant to stick his nose in. Turning them on their sides helped. He is struggling with the down indication (for low hides), so we worked on that as well as going down a line of pipes and checking each one for scent rather than wandering around. When he was reluctant to down, I’d accept a sit. He will move to boxes next time, and for those he must down. I take all the time needed to teach indications, just have to be careful that a pup doesn’t get bored and decide he doesn’t like the game.
