ZZ Litter

ZZ litter, whelped June 16th
Mercy bred to Justice
1 sable female, 3 black & tan females, 1 sable male & 2 black & tan males

Mr. Yellow (now “Raptor”) went to Montana for Search & Rescue.  Miss Green (now “Breeze”) went to Colorado to be a therapy dog and compete in obedience.  Miss Pink (now “Zinnia”) went to SW Wyoming for nosework competition.  Mr. Blue (now Zach) and Mr. Red (now Zion”) went to Colorado for Search & Rescue. I kept Miss White (now “Zest”) and Miss Gold (now “Zeal”) for nosework competition, therapy dog work and hopefully breeding.
Great News:  I did Zeal’s and Zest’s PennHip x-rays in October, when they were 16 months old.  BOTH rated in the 90th Percentile (their hips are better than 90% of the 19,795 GSDs they have evaluated!!)
Their OFA Hip & Elbow Prelims at 16 months also rated Good.

Raptor (Celhaus Zephyr’s Raptor CGC) at 2 years 4 months
the former Mr. Yellow, Raptor is in training for Search & Rescue.
“Raptor at open obedience class this morning. After 6 months off he went in relaxed and focused – nice to see the progress.

Raptor at 2 years 3 months
Photo 1:  “Enjoying the end of a beautiful day with my sidekick. Can you tell he dropped his chew toy on my chest?”
Photo 2: “Raptor after his two-hour canoe float counting Kokanee salmon. This was his third trip and he did very well. A bit noisy and excitable, but overall he did well AND we stayed afloat and counted over 700 fish!”

“Raptor is truly his father’s son.  He had a HORRIBLE behavior of charging outside screaming and barking on the deck steps every time someone approached the mesh door. Craig finally threw a pitcher of water on him, and bam, he stopped. Amazing! Funny that he just needed a smack of cold water when nothing else worked.”

“Raptor coming into his subject on an awesome training trail.  Hitting two years old was a bit magical!  He passed his Shore Certification Saturday!  Now I just need to get his trailing certification done, and then I’ll be happy for a while.”

7/13 (no photo):  “We passed our Trailing test in Jackson!  So proud of my little, highly-driven boy. So happy to see the focused worker he’s developing into.”
Raptor at 1 year 11 months
Photo 2:  “Team Raptor”

June 12 (no photo):  “Raptor passed his Cad 2 today (buried and bones). Tough area with grass so tall I couldn’t see him a lot of the time. Not the strongest refinds, (but OK for me to read). I think he thought I could see him. I did read all of his changes in behavior, so was a good teammate.”

Zinnia (Celhaus Zinnia Elegans) at 2 years 1 month
the former Miss Pink
Zinnia joined Ursa from the UU litter, who is also a Mercy son, so he’s her half-brother.
Zinnia at 2 years 1 month
Photo 1:  “Greetings!  Reporting from Leadville after our NACSW trial.  Zinnia finished third in her exterior search at the NW1 level.  But our big brag is she finished first overall in a field of twenty-three teams.  Our time for all four searches was one minute and four seconds.  She also placed second in the vehicle search along the way.”
Photo 2:  “Here is a random snap of Zinnia roasting herself in the sun when it was 90 degrees.”
Photos 3-4 are from Bonnie:  “Scott and Ursa were in an NW 3 trial that I was judging in Bridger, MT. He did great and got his second title. He came up and introduced himself at the awards ceremony, so we both met the siblings. Raptor is much bigger than Zinnia (by 20 pounds), but much the same mannerisms.  We didn’t put them together since she is trialing an NW 2 tomorrow and we were worried about too much energy (and not enough control) on both of them. So fun.”

Zinnia at 1 year 9 months
“I wanted to send you an updated picture of Zinnia.  She earned her NACSW ORT title last weekend.  Now she can play the sniffy game with big brother Ursa.”

Breeze (Celhaus Zephyr in Summer CGC) at 2 years 2 months
the former Miss Green
She joined Charis (JJ litter)
“So proud of my little girl. I took my truck in to be serviced and took her along for socializing, which she did with great enthusiasm as usual. But she was very good, greeting everyone happily but keeping her feet on the floor with one slight exception. As she did before, she laid quietly beside me but tried to make eye contact with everyone who walked by, then wagged her tail like crazy when she succeeded. The picture is her doing that. She was universally admired. She has started standing sideways against people who pet her. I’m really pleased with that. She is less inclined to jump up that way.”

11/13:  “We just got back from nosework class. Barb had some challenging hides. There were some in (mostly) closed containers…no problem for Breeze. During another search, she had some odor under the corner of a metal chair & one about 2 1/2 feet up on a wall. Both places were new to the dogs. Breeze had to work for those but didn’t give up until she found them. Barb picked up the odor tins under the chair after Breeze found those first. As she was walking away with them in her pocket, Breeze followed her & gave her a really dirty look! She plainly said, “What do you mean taking my hide away!? I worked for that!” She had everyone laughing.  Also – fun stuff! Breeze & I started a tricks class last night. I think it will enhance her value as a therapy dog. She had a blast & picked things up lightning fast.  She is so smart!”
10/24:  “I just got back from taking Breeze to the big mall not far from us for socializing & practicing self-control. She was very good. First stop was Bath & Body Works, which is rather small & was crowded with products & people. She was, of course, in her element, tail wagging like mad, dishing out many kisses, & getting petted. But she sat when I asked, then swung around so she was sitting beside people when they petted her (something she did on her own).  I was very pleased. We met at least 3 people there who have GSDs & had to talk about them & show me pictures…fun!  Then we walked down to Dick’s Sporting Goods. There were not so many people there, but she made the most of those she met. I did have to correct her when she wanted to jump up to greet a small child who was being carried by her dad. But she sat immediately & was calm. Good girl! And this will make you laugh. I’ve told you how she gives us quick little kisses as she walks by us. She did that to one of the mannequins!   Then we went to Macy’s which, surprisingly, is dog friendly. More people to greet & she behaved herself very well. We took the elevator to the 2nd floor, which is no big deal. She’s done that at Scheele’s many times. So, a good trip. She is definitely learning to behave, & I am still chuckling about that quick kiss for the mannequin.”
10/1:  “I took Breeze to Scheele’s today & she was in her element. I don’t think her tail ever stopped wagging, & she got to greet lots of people & give out kisses, which they loved. She politely greeted a young (2-year-old) Aussie. And she only tried slightly to jump on people. She stood at the top of the escalator, tail wagging madly, hoping each one would visit her. Sadly, they were all busy with their own agendas. That didn’t discourage her, though. She just headed for the next willing person. She is SUCH a people dog!”
Breeze at 2 years 2 months
8/21/25:  “
Breeze rocked her nosework class again. She is so fast with her finds. Barb had set up a pseudo car out of chairs & other items since it was way too hot to work the dogs outside. Breeze solved all her problems in record time even with fans blowing to confuse the scent. At one point she knocked over a couple of objects which came crashing down. She nimbly hopped over the objects & went right back to work. She did NOT want to stop searching even though she had found all the hides. She does love this game! Next week should be cool enough to start real car searches outside.
Breeze at 2 years 1 month
7/30/25:
I just set up a search in the basement for Breeze using Birch – 2 tins & one straw. I made the hides easy, though they were scattered, since this was her first time on odor & I did not pair the scents. I let her sniff another tin to get the idea then sent her to search. It hardly took her any time to figure it out & find the hides. I jackpotted her with treats & enthusiastic praise each time. She’s brilliant! If Barb introduces odor tomorrow at class, I’m going to ask her to NOT pair the hides. Breeze has the idea already! What a girl!!!  I credit YOU for teaching Breeze & her littermates to use their noses even before they were weaned. She does love the game.
7/25/25:  “
I wish you could have seen Breeze at class yesterday. But first, let me describe the place where we train.  It is in a rowhouse of small businesses. There is a front office room for people to come in, & a crating room off to one side. As you go back, there is a sort of storage area you go through to reach the training area which is a big room with high ceilings & a garage door at the back that can be raised to work outside on cooler days.  Breeze’s tail was wagging before we even reached the front door. When it was her turn, she started working in the front room, then quickly checked out the storage area on the way to the practice room. Barb had set up a sort of obstacle course with baby gates to confuse the search. There were 4 hides including one low down on the wall in a corner, one on the floor under a little step stool, & one on another step stool close to a stretched-out baby gate so she had to go around the baby gate, losing the scent to get on the correct side, then find it again. The 4th hide was a little out of the primary search area on a sort of PVC hoop close to the floor. She found all 4 hides in about 1 minute! Barb was very impressed. And I was very proud!  When the time comes, I think she will definitely be a contender for your special award for enthusiasm. She LOVES this game! Oh, & Barb had a floor fan running to further confuse the scent…no problem. I try to work her mostly off leash when I can because she is so fast.  Of course, that will not be an option when we start working outside.”
Photo 1:  “”Breeze got her first title – Canine Good Citizen!
Breeze 2:  “Here is the CGC class photo.  Everyone but Breeze was sitting nicely.  She wanted to visit with Megan (the instructor).  She is absolutely a social butterfly.  I love that!”

Zach (Celhaus Zeppelin’s High Flyer) at 2 years 4 months
Zach recently joined his brother, Zion, and is now training in doing Search and Rescue. He particularly enjoys tracking/trailing.  We have started
