QQ Litter

QQ Litter (Mercy bred to Cantor)
Whelped 3/7/19:  6 females & 2 males

Miss Orange (Envy) went to Utah for Search & Rescue; Mr. Blue (Olaf) went to Durango, CO for Search & Rescue and to do therapy dog work with veterans; Mr. Purple (Cash) went to Minnesota for agility, nosework and obedience competition; and Miss White (Ranger) went to Denver for possible competition and therapy dog work.  Miss Yellow (Neutron) went to Idaho Falls for all kinds of competition: agility, obedience, tracking, scent work and possibly barn hunt. Miss Green (Maya) and Miss Pink (Hilti) went to Colorado as pets.  Miss Red (Quizz) went to my good friend, Laurie Schwabauer, to be trained as a service dog.  No one qualified to take her when she was ready, so we placed her in a great home where she will compete in agility and other venues.

The UU litter, whelped January 27, 2021, is a repeat of this litter.

Ranger (Celhaus Queen Ranger) at 5 years 10 months
“Ranger is doing well — we got fat tire bikes this year for biking in the snow and Ranger has learned to bike-jour and pull the bike. It’s a too wild experience for my tastes, so Matt is her human partner on the bike. I attached a picture I snapped on the way to the open space park we live next to. She has a little bit of pavement and then a whole lot of dirt and snow.  Ranger loves it and it’s a great outlet for all the pulling time she doesn’t get on a normal leash walk.  Ranger had an eventful fall — we worked remotely from Kentucky and Indiana for almost two months and of course brought her along. She is a local celebrity with our six young nieces and nephews in Indiana and did well on our road trip home. Ranger did wipe out chasing a ball this fall and horribly split her dew claw. The vet was able to save it and now she has only expensive nail that we joke about.  All in all, she is doing great. We are loving seeing how she is getting more snuggley as she ages!”

Oli (Celhaus Quasi Prince Olaf) at 5 years 10 months
“Oli is doing well, and we have been busy with the Therapy Dog Work.  We were in Albuquerque last weekend at the VA Clinic.  We went to Hospice, the surgical ward, and the spinal ward.  We typically spend at least two hours visiting with the veterans, their families, and the staff.  Oli loves being with the veterans and I always enjoy the joy & happiness of the people he gets to know during the visit.  Other than that, we get in roughly 50 miles a week hiking.  Oli is fit and ready for most anything we do.  Currently he weighs in at around 92-95 pounds.”

Oli at 5 years 4 months

Oli at 4 years 7 months
“We got our therapy dog certification from Southwest Canine Core Volunteers (SCCV).  They have been really picky and helpful.  Great bunch of ladies.  Oli loves them!  We did the VA Hospital and Hospice Saturday on Veteran’s Day.  We are going to Presbyterian Hospital Thursday.”

Oli at 4 years 5 months
“Thought I’d send you an update on Oli.  He has passed the evaluations for the SCCV (Southwest Canine Core Volunteers) group and starts his clinical training next week.  We will be at a Beehive facility in Albuquerque.  He loves the work and the trainers put him through the ringer two weeks ago in his final evaluation.  We passed with a 52 out of 55 possible points.”

Quizz (Celhaus Question Me Or Not) at 6 years
For her senior project, Karen asked Laurie and Jamboree (JJ litter) if they would help her with her Senior project. She wanted to survey high school students on the benefits of having Therapy Dogs in the classroom during the day and the positive impact they have. Karen with Quizz and Laurie with Jamboree visited on Mondays and Tuesdays for one month.
Laurie’s comments:  “I loved the interactions with the staff as well as the students.  We gave out a survey and then went over everyone’s comments and presented the results to teachers and staff.  Karen asked if she could bring Quiz (who is not a certified therapy dog). She was a rock star.  We were asked to come back during finals week.”

From Karen’s report on her senior project:  “The class chosen was the Senior Seminar Class during 5th period in the school library.  This class was chosen because they are under a lot of stress working on scholarships and applying for colleges.  The presence of therapy dogs in the classroom lightens up the students’ moods and makes them feel more at ease.  A blanket was placed on the floor to create a space for the dogs and their handlers.  Students came and sat with the dogs on their own time so as not to disrupt the class’s normal atmosphere.  Surveys were taken each day, and showed that the dogs made a difference.  At the beginning of the class, the anxiety level was 29.9%, while at the end of class the anxiety level was 16.9%.  Schoolwork stress levels dropped from 32.3% to 20.9%.  This was after ONE day of therapy dog presence.  Surveys taken on the last day of the therapy dog project showed similar results, plus the students looked forward to the days the dogs would be present.  Students commented that everyone was in a better mood when the dogs were there.  Teachers commented that students were calmer and better able to focus on dog days than on non-dog days.”

Maya (Celhaus Querida Maya) at 5 years 8 months
“My elderly parents moved in with us this summer so that we can help take care of them.  Maya has been great with them, and they love her.  My mom is afraid of big dogs and never could imagine how friendly a GSD like Maya could be.  They are best buds now.  Kinda cool.”
Photo 3:  “Took Maya on a nice three-mile walk today. Weather here in Denver was mid-50’s and sunny.”

at 5 years 7 months
Photos 1-2:  “The Halloween costume was Jennifer’s.  The teachers dressed up as ‘Super Hero Teachers.  Then she put the costume on Maya.”
Photos 3-4″  “Remember Jack Nicholson in the 1980 movie ‘The Shining,’ based on Stephen King’s novel?”

Cash (Celhaus Quiggley) at 5 years 10 months
“Happy Thanksgiving.  Here is Cash relaxing after our ball sessions this morning.  We’re finally getting cold weather, so Cash is happy.
